WHPC announces Mark Hammond as Senior Vice President of Development, Acquisition & Construction

New executive role at nonprofit tapped to accelerate affordable housing growth in Wisconsin

Madison, WI, June 2, 2026 – Wisconsin Housing Preservation Corp. (WHPC), a leader in the preservation and development of quality affordable housing for low- to moderate-income populations in Wisconsin, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Hammond as Senior Vice President of Development, Acquisition and Construction. In his role, Hammond will oversee WHPC’s development, acquisition, and construction teams, leading efforts to grow and preserve the organization’s affordable housing portfolio across Wisconsin.

“My career has been about affordable housing and the communities it serves, and WHPC lets me keep doing that work at a scale and over a horizon I have not had before,” Hammond stated. “The mission is one I believe in, and the platform is built to deliver on it, and I am grateful for the chance to grow and preserve housing that Wisconsin families and seniors can count on.”

Before joining WHPC, Hammond served as Development Director for the City of Wauwatosa, where he led the city’s largest development initiative—a $250 million mixed-use public-private redevelopment partnership spanning over 900 housing units. Prior to that, he spent nine years as Vice President of Development and Construction and General Counsel at MSP Real Estate, where he doubled the firm’s affordable housing portfolio, developing over 1,400 units of mixed-income and senior housing with total project costs exceeding $300 million. Earlier in his career, Hammond served as Director of Development and General Counsel at The Weber Group in La Crosse, leading award-winning mixed-use, adaptive reuse, and hospitality projects.

“Mark brings significant industry expertise to our team, overseeing large mixed-use developments in Wisconsin and sourcing and developing new Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) projects across the Midwest,” said WHPC President Mike Slavish. “We look forward to Mark contributing to our mission to deliver high-quality, sustainable, affordable homes and serving our residents across Wisconsin.”

Hammond earned a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics and a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from UW-Madison.
